Felipe Nasr admits Force India’s vacant seat could be an option for him in 2017, though the Sauber driver adds that he has not had any contact with the Silverstone-based outfit yet.

With Nico Hulkenberg joining Renault next year, Force India has an opening alongside Sergio Perez.

A series of names has already appeared on the rumour mill, which includes Mercedes protégés Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon, but also Nasr’s team-mate Marcus Ericsson.

After being linked with a move to Williams in replacement of Felipe Massa, Nasr himself has emerged as a candidate for the second Force India drive. Asked ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix whether it was an option, the 24-year-old replied: “Yes but so far […] we didn’t have any links or conversation to the team.

“Nothing from my side that I can mention. I imagine it is a seat people are looking because it is a team that has been performing well.”

Nasr has also been tipped to remain at Sauber following a change of ownership and subsequent influx of high-profiles recruits. The Brazilian hopes he can announce his 2017 plans by his home race in two weeks’ time.

“Wait until Brazil,” he added.

“We are working hard on that, there are people looking after this. On my side there is a lot going on so hopefully soon we can have a definition.”
