Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali is set to take the reins of iconic luxury car maker Lamborghini.
The former Scuderia boss, who was dismissed by Luca di Montezemolo in April 2014, was hired by Audi later that year where it was rumored that he would be entrusted with the German manufacturer's entry into Formula 1.
But the Volkswagen group which owns the Lamborghini brand has now placed the 50-year-old Italian at the helm of the supercar manufacturer.
Domenicali succeeds Stephan Winkelmann, who will leave Lamborghini to lead Audi's performance car division, Quattro GmbH.
It will be interesting to see if Domenicali instills any Formula 1 enthusiasm at Lamborghini in the coming years. After all, the brand did enjoy a brief spell in Grand Prix racing back in 1991, when the Team Modena outfit ran Nicola Larini and Eric Van de Poele, albeit unsuccessfully.
Lamborghini also supplied its V12 engines to Larousse and Minardi until the end of 1993.
