French GP adds historic sportscars to support bill

For its return to the F1 calendar this summer, the French GP will offer race fans an action-packed weekend of racing with a massive support bill.

In addition to F1, F2, the GP3 Series and the Porsche Supercup, the June 22/24 weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard will also include a field of historic sports-protoypes and GT cars, courtesy of the new Masters Endurance Legends series.

The unique series, which caters for all cars that were eligible to enter the major endurance racing events from 1995 -2012 inclusive, will add the Formula 1 Grand Prix de France support race to its already-announced six-race programme for 2018, that includes races at Imola, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, the Nürburgring, Spa and Dijon.

"I’m proud that in its first year Masters Endurance Legends will be able to showcase its spectacular variety during a Formula 1 Grand Prix de France weekend", said Masters Historic Racing founder Ron Maydon.

"The Paul Ricard circuit is perfect for these cars, as they will be able to really stretch their legs on the straight while the technical return section is a true challenge for any driver.

"Building on our experience in staging Historic Formula One support races at Grand Prix weekends, I’m sure we will put on a good show for the French crowd."
