Red Bull will lend Honda a helping hand for 2018 in a bid to ensure the Japanese manufacture puts together a competitive package for Toto Rosso next year.

Honda has transferred its engine supply from McLaren to the Faenza-based squad, and Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko says the company is supporting its partner's efforts with technology of its own.

"Right now, we're working hard with Honda to make this a competitive package with Toro Rosso," he said.

"We are very pleased with the progress Honda is making and will continue to make until the start of the season."

The association and subsequent collaboration could be the prelude to an official tie-up between Red Bull Racing and Honda for 2019, should the Milton Keynes-based outfit discontinue its current partnership with Renault, a likely prospect according to many.

Marko revealed that Red Bull will support Honda "for example with the facilities that Red Bull Technology has", and will attentively follow the progress of the Toro Rosso-Honda package next year.

"We'll take a look and only then can I say in the middle of next year what we're going to do," he said.
