Jost Capito's spell at the head of McLaren F1 last year was as brief as time, but the German is now set to return to Volkswagen, the employer he left before heading to Woking.

Capito, who oversaw Volkswagen's motor sport activities, left the manufacturer in August 2016 before joining McLaren a month later at the instigation of chairman Ron Dennis.

His residency at Woking was short-lived however, and his departure was confirmed earlier this year after Dennis' ousting and executive Zak Brown's arrival at the helm of McLaren.

The 58-year-old has now returned to Volkswagen as manager of the company's Volkswagen R GmbH and Volkswagen Zubehor GmbH road-car subsidiaries.

The former entity handles Volkswagen's competence centre for design and performance products while the latter develops and markets vehicle accessories.
