'Shield' safety device favored over halo by Strategy Group

Among the decisions voted upon by the Strategy Group at its meeting in Paris today is a measure which favors a screen protective device over the 'halo' concept trialled last season.

While many teams and drivers are open to an improvement of cockpit safety by the exploitation of a protective device, the 'halo' did not enjoy widespread support.

A shield approach, similar to the 'aero screen' developed and introduced by Red Bull Racing, has emerged as the preferred cockpit protection safety device for the future.

Set for a formal introduction in 2018,  the screen will however be submitted to evaluation tests and trials later this year.
