FIA takes precautionary safety measures ahead of Sunday's race

The FIA has set up a contingency plan for tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix should the skies once again threaten proceedings.

Yesterday's second free practice session was cancelled because the medical helicopter would not have been able to land at the designated Shanghai hospital 38km away in the event of an accident and subsequent air transport necessity.

F1's governing body has now arranged for a police escort to ensure a quick transfer by road, should it be necessary.

An alternate hospital, located just 5km from the track, but which does not have a dedicated neurological department is currently being equipped and will be on stand-by tomorrow.

Hopefully, none of all this will be necessary.  But it's always better to be prepared...
