Aussie Grand Prix victor Sebastian Vettel says that when it comes to naming a favourite for this year's world title, Mercedes are still at the top of his list.

The Ferrari driver's triumph in Melbourne was long-awaited by all at the Scuderia but while it has reassured the German on the potential of the team's new-spec SF70H, it hasn't eroded Mercedes' status as the favourites for 2017.

"Mercedes have to still be the favourites," said Vettel earlier today

"We had a very, very strong first race but, in the team, we are just looking at it race by race. We know we have a good package which puts us in a strong place.

"But we have a lot of things we need to do to keep up with them."

Ferrari's ability to challenge the Silver Arrows and ultimately beat them is result of changes at the Scuderia which are coming to fruition, according to Vettel.

"A lot of things have changed since last season," explained the German.

"We have evolved, we are in a much better position and people are more comfortable throughout the whole team.

"The work going in is a lot more targeted and we are more confident with how we work now."

"I think it was generally a nice feeling to get something back. For sure victory is the best medicine to everyone. It was good we did that, and now we move on."
