Audi clarifies its stance on F1

Given its brand image and its propensity for cutting-edge technology, Audi always seems like a perfect fit for Formula 1.

While the Ingolstadt manufacturer did send a representative to last week's FIA-sanctioned F1 engine meeting - Lamborghini's Stefano Domenicali, motor sport boss Dieter Glass is ruling out an Audi involvement for now.

"Formula 1 is basically interesting and still the top class of motor sport," he told Germany's Sport Bild.

"But if you look at motor sport as a whole, there are currently no series except Formula E and DTM in which Audi must be represented," Glass added.

Still, after pulling out of the World Endurance Championship, Audi now lacks a global presence on the racing scene.

Grand Prix racing may not be in its current line of sight, but the German manufacturer will certainly remain attentive to the form and rules which shall define the F1 power unit of tomorrow.
