Hamilton won't allow Rosberg repeat of Monaco error

Lewis Hamilton says he will not allow Nico Rosberg the chance to run ahead of him on track during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Last year, Rosberg had set the provisional pole position time when he ran down the escape road at Mirabeau, bringing out the yellow flags and preventing Hamilton from beating his time on his final run. However, Hamilton will make sure a repeat situation doesn't occur this year, saying: "This year I will have the choice to go ahead of him so I will make sure I do that."

Despite wanting to be out on track ahead of Rosberg, Hamilton says it is only the media who are focusing on last year's events.

"For me I'm not worried about last year I'm just going there to win. I haven't won there in a long time so I'm going to work hard to get the balance right."

And the 2014 world champion says he is focused on maximising any opportunity to double his tally of victories in Monaco having seen Rosberg win each of the last two years.

"I don't look at it as unfinished business – the last two years I have had the car to win. The first year I struggled with it, last year I had the pace but other things were up against me and this year hopefully will be different – third time lucky."
