Renault Sport F1 director of operations Rémi Taffin announces that the French engine supplier will introduce an updated version of its power unit in Spain with a view to improving both driveability and reliability.
Renault has been plagued with a raft of engine issues since the start of the 2015 season and come under heavy fire from its partner Red Bull. While it had the second best hybrid unit behind Mercedes in 2014, Viry has been clearly leapfrogged by Ferrari.
Driveability was Renault's main concern in Melbourne’s season opener before poor reliability hit both supplied teams in China and Bahrain, as Daniel Ricciardo, Daniil Kvyat, and Max Verstappen all suffered ICE failures over the past two races.
The Australian will even use its fourth internal combustion engine out of the allocated four in round five of this year's championship.
Taffin insists Renault has been working very hard since Sakhir and will fare much better at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with Red Bull and Toro Rosso set to use a revised power plant in Spain.
“The three-week gap has given us an opportunity to look at all the information from the start of the season,” said Taffin.
“We have been flat out to counter the issues encountered early on and we will have a modified spec of engine for this race that should give improved reliability and driveability.
“We are looking forward to Spain to see our hard work in action.”
