Romain Grosjean says he is able to maximise results for Lotus after learning how to control his aggression.
The Frenchman was often quick in his early years with Lotus but in 2012 was having numerous incidents at the start of races and almost lost his seat at the end of the year. 2013 saw a clear improvement, and while last year was a tough one for Lotus Grosjean has started the new season by scoring all 12 of the team's points so far.
As a driver who is often willing to take risks when attempting to overtake, Grosjean was asked if controlling his aggression was the reason why he made fewer errors in recent years, to which he replied: "Yes it is.
“I’ve been learning a lot and if we take 2012 it was always in the same place. It was always at the start and it was a mistake from taking the wrong objective as the start was going on. When you learn that and you understand what you’re doing wrong then you can change.
"I think then the aggressivity I can have driving in qualifying is my strength as well. You can do a good lap and then in the race at some key moments it’s important to have it. Of course you need to control it and you need to know that there is 500 people working hard for you to build a car and they don’t want you to crash.”
Grosjean has finished in seventh place at each of the last two races in China and Bahrain.
