Tech F1i - Still evolving in Abu Dhabi

RED BULL’S UPDATED FRONT WING

Red Bull sampled a new front wing in Abu Dhabi, once again with an eye towards refining its 2018 package. On the RB13, the inner edges of the front wing flaps used to point upwards, which was quite an original solution that generated the Y250 vortex at a higher level than on other chargers.

However, on the model used around Yas Marina Circuit on Friday and Saturday, the flaps slope downwards (so much that the first flap actually connects with the wing’s main plane), just like on all the other cars. Meanwhile, the arched section sitting on the outer board of the wing, which aims to push away the dirty air coming off the front wheels, is wider on the updated version.
