Tech F1i – Haas' F1 homecoming in Austin

MELTING POT

Born in Gene Haas’ US headquarters of Kannapolis, North Carolina but run in Marussia’s former factory of Banbury in the UK, the VF-17 is naturally designed… in Italy! Indeed, the American charger’s bodywork, including the rear wing shown above, is shaped in Maranello’s windtunnel under the stewardship of former Red Bull man Ben Agathangelou.

The chassis is then assembled inside Dallara’s facilities in Parma with Rob Taylor at the helm. Boasting an F1 experience of 28 years, the British engineer was McLaren’s head of design from 2006 to 2010 before joining the now-defunct Marussia outfit as deputy chief designer.
