Mercedes engineers have also added an extra vane to the W08’s diffuser, although the Silver Arrow might already have it two weeks earlier at Singapore.
Force India’s overhaul in the area is more significant: the edges of the diffuser have been made rounder, and the flaps refined. The diffuser has also gained a vane while the middle part has a slimmer outline. It’s worth noting that the diffuser and floor of a F1 car combine for around 60% of the downforce generated, while the front and rear wing produce 23% and 17% respectively, according to renowned aerodynamicist Willem Toet.
