NEW SHARK FIN FOR MERCEDES AS WELL

Mercedes also trialled a new shark fin engine cover on the W08 in a bid to improve cornering stability around the 23-turn Marina Bay Circuit. While the previous model was dented in the middle, the Singapore design comprises of a full fin (similar to the Red Bull, Force India, Williams, and McLaren solutions) with an opening at the top so the heat released by the engine and ancillaries could be vented out.

With high local temperatures, Mercedes also pierced an aperture in the front end of its latest Silver Arrow in order to feed fresh air inside the cockpit.

Finally, the upper face of the diffuser gained an extra vane, which aims at creating a vortex that increases the expanding capacity of the diffuser, with the floor generating more downforce by the same token.
