CONTINUITY AND INNOVATION AT TORO ROSSO

Toro Rosso has kept its characteristic oil coolers on the STR12. Instead of sitting in the sidepods in a conventional setup, they are placed higher up around the engine. Designed to cool down the engine oil, they are fed by the side ducts of the roll-hoop air inlet. This unique installation helps declutter the sidepods, hence their undercut outline on the 2017-spec Toro Rosso.

One will also notice the significantly tight shape of the airbox system on the Renault RE17 power unit.

The heave spring on the new Toro Rosso features Belleville washers (just like on the parent team’s Red Bull RB13) and has a higher positioning; a solution seen on most 2017-spec challengers.
