Formula E's Gen2 racer runs for the first time

Formula E new next generation racer has turned its wheels for the very first time, courtesy of DS Performance, a motorsport arm of the French PSA group and a partner of DS Virgin Racing.

The striking new new racer which will be introduced in the electric series' 2018-19 season completed a shakedown run at DS Performance's factory near Versailles.

"This car represents the future of racing," said Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag when the Gen2 machine was unveiled in Geneva earlier this month.

"When we started Formula E, our goal was to break the mould and challenge the status quo - bringing a revolution to motorsport. This next generation car represents that revolution."

The big change involving the new machine is the battery upgrade which will not only boost the car's performance but also its autonomy, which in turn will enable Formula E to scrap the current mid-race car swaps.
