Campos still looking for race wins

Today's birthday boy is former Formula 1 driver Adrian Campos, who turns 57 today. He was born on June 17 1960 in Alcira, Valencia in Spain.

Campos' first success was in radio-controlled car racing, winning the Spanish Championship in 1980. After that he switched to car racing in Formula Three and Formula 3000 before he was signed up by the Minardi Formula 1 team. He took part in 21 events beginning in 1987, but sadly only finished two races. The string of retirements left him disillusioned, and he exited F1 at the end of 1987.

He switched instead to team management, founding Adrian Campos Motorsport in 1998. One of his early driver discoveries was Fernando Alonso. The team was later one of the original GP2 Series line-up. It clinched the 2009 title with four race wins from drivers Lucas di Grassi and Vitaly Petrov.

Campos was also involved in setting up a new Spanish team in Formula 1. He was executive vice-president of HRT, which participated in 56 races between 2010 and 2012.

Following the demise of HRT, Campos returned to GP2. This year, Campos Racing is currently competing in GP3, and also Euroformula Open Championship in which it's the current team champion.

Campos is show in the picture above in his current role of team manager on the grid before the 2016 Monaco GP2 race. And below you can see him in in his former guise of Formula 1 driver in 1988, also in Monaco. Unfortunately it was a race he failed to qualify for.
