Stewart and Hill start laying the bricks

Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill confer during the first week of practice for the Indy 500 in 1966.

In his rookie outing in the Indy 500 in 1966, Sir Jackie, driving a Lola-Ford, was leading the race with just nine laps to go when mechanical failure dropped him to sixth place.

Graham Hill, also driving a Lola, went on to win with Jim Clark in second place, while Stewart was named Rookie of the Year.
